Series |
The
Matheson Flow Commander™ Series consists of an integral RS-232
(Model 8280-232) and RS-485 (Model 8280-485) computer interface.
The RS-232/485 Control Boxes are used in conjunction with mass
flow controller transducers to monitor and control a variety of
functions through a host PC.

| The Flow
Commander Model 8280-232/485 Control Box is connected to a host
PC's communication port, using either a 9-pin serial cable
(Model CBL-0202-XX) or a 25-pin serial cable (Model
CBL-0203-XX). Each Model 8280-232/485 Control Box has an input
module and an output module, relative to the host computer. The
input module converts the 0-5 VDC signal from the mass flow
sensor to a serial binary stream which is transmitted as input
data to the host computer. The output module converts a serial
binary stream that originates at the host computer into a 0-5
VDC signal which then controls the flow setting of the mass flow
controller. |
| The mass
flow controllers are monitored and controlled through a simple
set of commands issued in ASCII format and transmitted in RS-485
protocol. Since communications are performed in ASCII format,
programming code can be written in virtually any high-level
language. |

Configuration |
| An easy to use utility
software package (Model PR0-0021-XX) is provided with each
Model-232/485 Control Box, free of charge. This software is menu
driven from DOS and is primarily used to configure and test the
input/output modules. |
| A copy of the GENIE Data
Acquisition and Control software package (Model PRO-0020-XX) can
be purchased as an option. The software is ideally suited for
data collection, laboratory and factory automation, and
process/supervisory control. |
