A switchover system provides an uninterrupted supply of gas from a cylinder or a bank of cylinders. A typical switchover system consists of two gas sources (either two cylinders, or two banks of cylinders connected by manifolds), two regulators, and a common discharge line. One regulator is set to deliver gas at a higher pressure than the other side. The side with the higher delivery pressure will discharge gas first. When the cylinder pressure of the active cylinder drops to the pressure set on the reserve cylinder, the reserve side will start to deliver gas; thus, ‘switchover’ automatically occurs. The operator can then change the empty cylinder(s) and initiate the process again.

Matheson's 5200 Series Switchover Systems incorporate the two individual regulators into a unique, single body design. Only one regulator requires adjustment, making these systems simple and convenient to operate.

5230/5240 Series Switchover Systems
The 5230/5240 Series Switchover Systems are designed for High Purity continuous delivery of gases, mixtures, or vapor phase of liquefied gases with vapor pressures above 300 psig. The 5230/5240 Series are complete Switchover Systems for cabinet or wall mounting with 24 standard designs that allow various outlet pressures, choice of material and other standard options.

The Brass 5230 and Stainless Steel 5240 Series Switchover Systems are applicable for non-corrosive gases. In High Purity applications or when using hazardous gases, it is recommended to incorporate a purge to prevent atmospheric contamination of the system.

Benefits
The unique design allows easy operation. After the primary cylinder (bank) is depleted, the system switches automatically to the secondary cylinder (bank). Simply turn the handle towards the full cylinder (bank) to switch priority, close the cylinder valve(s) and the inlet valve(s) where applicable, change the empty cylinder(s) and open the valve(s). Purity and safety are increased by eliminating potential inboard and outboard leaks.
