Toxic Gas Leak Detector
Model 8081

Description

Matheson's PortaSens Series of detectors provide compound specific leak detection of a wide variety of toxic gases and chemicals. Choose from twenty-three available sensors to suit your particular application. Each is optimized to provide maximum sensitivity with minimum interference from other gases.

The
PortaSens is extremely useful for locating gas leakage from process piping, tubing, pumps, valves, storage cylinders or any other vessel containing toxic gas. It will also accurately measure ambient concentrations in confined spaces or open areas. The detachable sample inlet extension wand allows samples to be drawn from the precise spot being tested. A durable, waterproof casing protects the detector from harsh environments.

An internal miniature pump, which delivers a positive and constant sample flow, provides a sampling advantage over slower diffusion based units. A compact sensing manifold further enhances rapid response times.

A backlit LCD provides a clear, easy-to-read gas concentration readout in any ambient lighting condition. Two user-adjustable alarms give visual and audible indications of alarm conditions. Low flow and low battery alarms are also provided.

Power is supplied by a rechargeable NiCad battery in the handle, which enables operation for 12 hours at 20ºC or 8 hours at 0ºC. An LED provides positive charge indication.

An intrinsically safe circuit design allows use of the PortaSens almost anywhere. An internal RFI coating shields sensitive electronics from interference.
Each PortaSens Toxic Gas Leak Detector is supplied in its own padded storage case. Also included in the case is a battery charger, a detachable sampling extension wand and a wall mounting bracket for those applications requiring the detector to be close at hand and ready for use.

Cross sensitivity data was developed by exposure of sensors to gas concentrations below 100 ppm. Sensors may show either transient or continuous responses different from those listed above, if exposed to very high concentrations of a gas. The values shown are the equivalent signal generated by the sensors when exposed to 1 ppm of the indicated gas. For instance, exposure of a chlorine (oxidant) sensor to 1 ppm of nitrogen dioxide would produce a sensor signal equivalent to 0.4 ppm CI2.
* Data shown for the chlorine sensor refers to the sensor used for bromine, chlorine, chloride dioxide, fluorine or ozone.
** Indicates a 3 electrode sensor that requires a minimum of 2% oxygen for proper operation.
*** Oxygen sensors will respond to halogen gases at % levels, but are unaffected by low ppm levels.
**** Oxygen sensor response will be affected by % levels of CO2, but is unaffected by low ppm levels.
