Introduction
Filters

Filters are used to remove particulate matter from a gas stream. They function mechanically by limiting the travel of particulates by size through their filter media. The ideal placement of filters is just before the point of use of the gas, in order to trap any particles generated in the delivery line or from the source. The size of the smallest particles removed is expressed as the rating of the filter.

Filter life span depends on particulate size, density in the supply line, and active time in use (duty cycle). When the pressure drop across the filter (upstream to downstream) increases by 50%, the filter is becoming clogged with particles and should be replaced.
Purifiers

Purifiers are used to remove specific chemical components from a gas stream. They function by either catalytic action or by adsorption. Purifiers are generally named by the substance that they remove.

Oxygen, moisture, and hydrocarbons are the three main chemical contaminants that must be removed from gases for use in analytical applications. Matheson offers a variety of purifiers to remove these components
